Add the Allinaa chatbot to a WordPress site

Written by the Allinaa team · Updated

There are two clean ways to put the Allinaa website assistant on a WordPress site: upload the small plugin that your Allinaa cabinet generates for your business, or paste one line of code into the free WPCode plugin. Neither needs a developer, and neither touches your theme files.

Before you start: your embed code from the setup wizard

You need an Allinaa account first. Sign up at bot.allinaa.com/start with your business name, your website address and a work e-mail. After you confirm the six-digit code we e-mail you, the setup wizard walks you through business details, a knowledge draft read from your own website, languages, the look of the chat button, installation, and going live.

Step 5 of the wizard, "Install", shows your personal embed code with a copy button and the WordPress plugin download. The same tools stay available later in the cabinet card called "Website installation". Your code looks like this, with your own id in place of your-bot-id:

<script src="https://bot.allinaa.com/widget.js" data-bot-id="your-bot-id" defer></script>

Review the knowledge draft before you go live. The assistant answers from the information you approve, and AI answers can still be wrong, so the draft is never published by itself.

Option 1: upload your ready-made plugin, step by step

  1. In the wizard's Install step (or the "Website installation" card), download the WordPress plugin. You get a zip file. Do not unzip it.
  2. In WP Admin, open Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  3. Click Upload Plugin and choose the zip file.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. Click Activate Plugin.

These are the standard buttons of WordPress's own plugin upload screen, described in the WordPress documentation on managing plugins. Once the plugin is active, the chat button appears at the bottom of every page your theme renders with its normal footer.

What the plugin does, and what it doesn't

The plugin is deliberately tiny, so you can read all of it in a minute:

  • It is one PHP file that hooks into WordPress's wp_footer action and prints your script tag, with your id escaped the WordPress way.
  • It has no settings page and stores nothing in your database.
  • It holds no password, key or token, and your server sends nothing anywhere because of it. The visitor's browser loads the assistant from bot.allinaa.com.
  • Your knowledge, languages and colors live in your Allinaa cabinet, not in the plugin, so changing them never requires a new plugin file.
  • To remove the assistant, deactivate or delete the plugin.

It is a per-business download and is not listed in the WordPress.org plugin directory.

Option 2: the free WPCode plugin's Header & Footer box

If you already keep analytics or other snippets in WPCode, adding Allinaa there keeps everything in one place.

  1. In WP Admin go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for "WPCode", then click Install and Activate.
  2. In the left sidebar open Code Snippets > Header & Footer.
  3. Paste your code into the Footer box (the Header box also works) and click Save Changes.

The menu names come from the WPCode listing on WordPress.org and WPCode's own guide. The code runs only while WPCode is active. Use one method, not both, so the code is added once.

WordPress.com: plans that allow plugins

If your site is hosted on WordPress.com, plugins can be installed on the paid Personal, Premium, Business and Commerce plans; they are not available on the Free plan (see WordPress.com's plugin support page). A self-hosted WordPress site on your own hosting has no such plan limit from WordPress.

WooCommerce stores

WooCommerce runs inside WordPress, so the plugin or WPCode method above covers your shop, category, product and cart pages too. Because the assistant knows which page the visitor is on, a shopper on a product page can ask "Does this come in a larger size?" and get an answer based on that page and the store information you approved. For privacy, checkout and account page addresses are not used as context.

Allinaa does not connect to your WooCommerce orders or stock, so it cannot say where a specific order is. It can collect the shopper's details, with their permission, so your team follows up. More ideas for shops are on the online stores page.

You could paste the code into footer.php with the Theme File Editor, but we advise against it:

  • A theme update replaces the file and the assistant silently disappears.
  • A typo in a live theme file can break the whole site.
  • Many newer block themes have no footer.php at all.

If your site already loads Google Tag Manager, adding the code there is another option that survives theme changes; see the Google Tag Manager guide. If someone else manages your site, send the code to your web developer straight from the cabinet.

Check the installation

  1. If you use a caching plugin or your host caches pages, clear the cache.
  2. Open your site in a private browser window. The chat button should sit in a bottom corner.
  3. Ask a question your approved knowledge covers, such as your opening hours.
  4. In the cabinet, click Check my site. It reads your homepage and up to two pages it links to and looks for your code.

Nothing showing? Work through the troubleshooting checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a developer to install the chatbot on WordPress?

No. If you can install a plugin, you can install Allinaa: upload the zip from your cabinet and click Activate Plugin.

Will the plugin slow down my WordPress site?

The script tag uses the defer attribute, so the browser downloads it in parallel and runs it after the page has been read, instead of holding the page back while it loads.

Can I use the plugin and WPCode at the same time?

Use one method only, so the code is added to each page once. If you switch, deactivate the method you no longer use.

Is the Allinaa plugin in the WordPress.org plugin directory?

No. It is generated for your business and downloaded from your Allinaa cabinet.
