Add the Allinaa chatbot to a WordPress.com site

Written by the Allinaa team · Updated

WordPress.com, the hosted WordPress, is not the same as a WordPress site on your own hosting, and the difference is plugins: WordPress.com allows them on its paid plans and not on the Free plan. Once plugins are allowed, the installation is the same as on any WordPress site: the ready-made plugin from your Allinaa cabinet, or the free WPCode plugin. This guide covers the plan check first.

Which WordPress.com plans allow plugins

WordPress.com's support page on plugins lists the plans that can install them: at the time of writing the paid plans (Personal, Premium, Business and Commerce), and not the Free plan. Plan names and what they include change, so that page is the authority; if your WP Admin has no Plugins menu, your plan is the reason, and no code trick replaces a plugin on WordPress.com.

Get your code and the plugin

The line comes from your Allinaa cabinet. After you sign up at bot.allinaa.com/start and approve the knowledge the wizard drafts from your public pages, step 5 of the wizard shows it, and the Overview keeps it under "Website installation":

<script src="https://bot.allinaa.com/widget.js" data-bot-id="your-bot-id" defer></script>

Below the code, the cabinet offers Download the WordPress plugin: a zip made for your business that prints this line on every page. It has no settings page and stores nothing.

Step by step with the ready-made plugin

  1. Open your site's WP Admin.
  2. Go to Plugins, then Add New Plugin, and click Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the zip you downloaded, click Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
  4. Open your site in a private window; the button is on every page.

Or with WPCode

If you prefer a general-purpose snippet plugin, install the free WPCode plugin from Plugins, Add New Plugin, then open Code Snippets, Header & Footer, paste the line into the Footer box and click Save Changes. Both routes are described in full, with the theme-footer warning, in the WordPress guide.

If your plan cannot install plugins

Two choices. Move the site to a plan that allows plugins, which is the only way to run the floating button on WordPress.com. Or link to your hosted chat page, https://bot.allinaa.com/chat/your-bot-id, from a menu item or a button: the link opens a full-page chat with your assistant on any plan. The Google Sites guide describes that route.

Check the installation

  1. Open the published site, not the editor, in a private browser window.
  2. Look for the chat button in a bottom corner, then open a second page.
  3. Ask something your approved knowledge covers.
  4. In your Allinaa cabinet click Check my site: it reads your homepage and up to two pages it links to and answers found, not found or unreachable.

Not showing? Deactivated plugins and caching are the usual causes; see the troubleshooting page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add the chatbot to a free WordPress.com site?

Not as a floating button: the Free plan cannot install plugins. A link to your hosted chat page works on any plan.

Which plans allow plugins?

WordPress.com's plugins support page lists them; at the time of writing the paid plans. That page is the authority, because plan names change.

Ready-made plugin or WPCode?

Either. The ready-made plugin is one upload with nothing to configure; WPCode is a general snippet manager.

Why is there no Plugins menu in my WP Admin?

Your plan does not allow plugins. Check WordPress.com's plugins page for the plans that do.
