Add the Allinaa chatbot to Google Sites with the hosted chat page
Written by the Allinaa team · Updated
Google Sites is the one popular builder where the usual one-line installation is not possible: Google's help describes code on a Google Site only as an embed you insert on one page, so Allinaa does not offer the floating button there. Allinaa covers this with a hosted chat page, a full-page chat at your own address that you link from your site. Here is what Google's help says, and how the hosted page works.
Why the floating button is not available on Google Sites
Google's Sites help page Add Google files, videos, website content, & more describes how code gets onto a Google Site: Insert, then Embed, then Embed code, where you add your code and click Next; the page also says that JavaScript code must be within script tags. That is an item you insert on one page. The Allinaa line has to run in the page itself, on every page of the site, so Allinaa does not offer the floating button on Google Sites; the hosted chat page below is the route instead.
The hosted chat page
Every Allinaa assistant has a hosted chat page at https://bot.allinaa.com/chat/your-bot-id, with your own bot id in place of your-bot-id; your cabinet shows the exact address in the Google Sites guide under "Website installation". The link opens a full-page chat with your assistant: the same bot, the same approved knowledge, the same inquiry inbox and e-mail notifications, without the floating button. Visitors reach it through a link or a button on your site. Because the page is a full page, it also suits places that have no website at all: a link in a profile, an e-mail signature or a printed QR code.
Get your bot id
Sign up at bot.allinaa.com/start, confirm your e-mail and follow the setup wizard. Step 5, "Install", shows your code; the value of data-bot-id in it is your bot id, and the Overview's "Website installation" card shows the hosted chat page address itself under the Google Sites guide.
Step by step on Google Sites
- Decide where visitors should find the chat: a button in the header, a menu item, or a page of its own called "Ask a question".
- Add a button or a link and give it your hosted chat page address. Set it to open in a new tab so visitors keep your site open.
- Publish the site and open the link on a phone and on a computer.
Placing the chat inside a page: use a link instead
Google Sites can show another address inside one of its pages: its help page has you enter the URL you want to embed. The hosted chat page is not supported there. Google's own guidance for embedding into a site built with Google Sites is that the service being embedded must permit embedding on Google's content domain, googleusercontent.com (Google Arts & Culture Platform Help). The chat page allows framing only from bot.allinaa.com and from the website address saved in your Allinaa account, so it does not meet that condition, and the Sites help page notes that some websites do not let you add their content to a site. Use a link or a button, as above; for the embed dialog's own options, check in Google's help.
What differs from the floating button
- No page-aware answers. On the hosted page the assistant does not see the page the visitor came from; it answers from your approved knowledge. Put the answers that your pages carry into the knowledge as well.
- No "Check my site". The cabinet's site check looks for the script tag; on Google Sites there is none. The hosted page works as soon as your assistant is active.
- The rest is the same. Inquiries, languages, the inquiry inbox and the limits of your plan apply as on the website chat.
Other builders without a code setting
The same route serves any site that cannot take a script: a builder plan without a code box, such as the ones described in the Jimdo and WordPress.com guides. For a site that can take the script, the floating button is the better experience; see the full list of guides.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add the floating chat button to Google Sites?
No. Google's help describes code on a Google Site as an embed you insert on one page, so Allinaa does not offer the floating button there; the hosted chat page is the route.
What is the hosted chat page?
A full-page chat with your assistant at bot.allinaa.com/chat/ followed by your bot id, which you link from your site.
Can I embed the hosted chat page inside a Google Sites page?
No. Google's guidance is that an embedded service must permit embedding on googleusercontent.com; the chat page allows framing only from bot.allinaa.com and from the website address saved in your Allinaa account. Link to it from a button or a menu item instead.
Is the hosted page the same assistant as the website chat?
Yes: the same approved knowledge and the same inquiry inbox, without page-aware answers.
Does Check my site work for Google Sites?
No. It looks for the script tag, which a Google Site cannot carry; the hosted page needs no check.
