Add the Allinaa chatbot to a WooCommerce store

Written by the Allinaa team · Updated

WooCommerce is WordPress, so the installation is the WordPress one - but a shop raises two questions a brochure site does not: whether the assistant should appear on the cart and checkout, and what it is allowed to say about stock, orders and refunds. Those two decisions matter more than the paste.

Before you start: copy your embed code

Create your account at bot.allinaa.com/start using your shop's address. The setup wizard reads your own shop pages - shipping, returns, delivery, about - and drafts the knowledge from them so you can edit and approve it. Step 5, "Install", shows your line with a copy button:

<script src="https://bot.allinaa.com/widget.js" data-bot-id="your-bot-id" defer></script>

Installing it: the two reliable ways

Both are described in full on the WordPress guide, and the short version is:

  1. A small plugin file dropped into wp-content/mu-plugins/. It survives theme updates and theme switches, which is the usual reason a widget disappears from a shop six months later. This is the method used on Allinaa's own customer sites.
  2. Your theme's footer hook, through a child theme or a code-snippets plugin. Never edit a parent theme directly: the next update overwrites it.

Keep it off the cart and checkout

This is the WooCommerce-specific decision, and the answer is almost always yes, keep it off. A chat bubble floating over a payment form is a distraction at the one moment you do not want one, and on a phone it fights the sticky "place order" button for the same corner of the screen. WordPress gives you a conditional for exactly this, so the script can be loaded everywhere except the cart, the checkout and the order-received page.

The assistant's page reading already skips private path segments such as checkout and account pages, so it will not read a page of somebody's order even if the widget is present. Keeping it off those pages entirely is the simpler rule. See where to put the chat widget.

Caching and optimisation plugins

Shops are heavily cached, and a caching plugin's JavaScript optimiser is the most common reason a correctly installed widget does not appear. Two things to do: purge the cache after installing, and if the tag still does not appear in the page source, exclude it from JavaScript combining or deferring. On one Allinaa customer site running an aggressive optimiser the tag was stripped from the rendered page entirely until it was excluded, so this is a real failure and not a theoretical one. See install troubleshooting.

What it should and should not say about your shop

  • Stock and order status: it has no access to WooCommerce, so it cannot say whether an item is in stock or where an order is. Write the sentence it uses instead - your order-tracking link, your contact for order questions - and it will give that every time rather than guessing.
  • Shipping and returns: this is where it earns its place. Delivery times, cut-offs, who pays return postage, how long a refund takes, which countries you ship to. These are the questions that produce abandoned baskets, and they have fixed answers.
  • Products: on Premium you can import your catalogue - name, price, availability and the product link as published - and the assistant answers with the right product page rather than a description. It answers only from your catalogue, so it cannot offer something you do not sell. See online stores.
  • Discounts: it will not invent a code or a discount. If you want it to mention a current offer, write the offer in the knowledge and remove it when it ends.

Check it worked

  1. Open your shop in a private window. The bubble should appear on a product page.
  2. Open the checkout. The bubble should be absent, if that is what you chose.
  3. Ask it your most common shipping question and read the answer.
  4. Ask it where an order is. It should decline and give your order-contact route.

Then go through the launch checklist.
