Add the Allinaa chatbot to a PrestaShop store
Written by the Allinaa team · Updated
PrestaShop stores are self-hosted, so the Allinaa line can be added to the theme or through a module, on PrestaShop 8 and 9 alike. The theme edit is one line; the module route is the one that survives theme updates. This guide gives both, names the cache step, and is clear that there is no Allinaa module on PrestaShop Addons today.
Theme template or module
Every PrestaShop theme has a footer template that closes the page; the line goes just before the closing body tag there. A theme update can overwrite that file, which is why a child theme or a module is the better home when the theme is maintained by someone else. A module that prints custom code on every page (many exist on Addons and elsewhere) takes the line in its settings and keeps it across theme updates. Either way the shop's cache must be cleared afterwards.
Get your code
You need your own code first. Sign up at bot.allinaa.com/start for the 14-day free trial, confirm your e-mail and follow the setup wizard; step 5, "Install", shows one line:
<script src="https://bot.allinaa.com/widget.js" data-bot-id="your-bot-id" defer></script>Route 1: the theme's footer template
- Open your theme's footer template (for the file in your theme, check in PrestaShop's documentation or with the theme's author); use a child theme if you have one.
- Paste the line just before the closing body tag and save.
- Clear the cache in the back office so visitors get the new page.
Route 2: a module that adds code to every page
- Install a module that prints custom scripts on every page; modules are uploaded as a zip in the back office.
- Paste the line into its footer or "before body end" setting and save.
- Clear the cache and open the shop.
Product questions
The assistant answers from the knowledge you approve, and on Premium it can find products from a photo or a description when you import your catalog into your cabinet; see product search from a photo. It does not read the PrestaShop database. Delivery, returns and payment answers belong in the knowledge, because customers ask them on product and cart pages.
Check the installation
Check from both sides. As a visitor: open the live site in a private window, look for the button in a bottom corner and open a second page, so you know it is not limited to one. From Allinaa: click Check my site in the cabinet; it reads your homepage and up to two linked pages and answers found, not found or unreachable. The status also turns to installed by itself the first time the assistant loads on a page of your site.
Gone after a theme update? Paste the line again or move to the module route. Other causes: the troubleshooting page. On OpenCart or Magento, see the OpenCart and Magento guides.
