Add the Allinaa chatbot to an OpenCart store

Written by the Allinaa team · Updated

OpenCart adds site-wide code either in the theme's footer template or through an extension, and the main thing to know is that OpenCart 3 and OpenCart 4 keep their theme files in different places. The Allinaa assistant is one script tag in either version. This guide gives both routes without claiming a file path your version may not have.

OpenCart 3 or 4

Check your version in the admin before you edit anything: OpenCart 4 reorganised the folders of themes and extensions, so a path from an OpenCart 3 tutorial does not apply to a 4 store. In both versions the footer template is the file that closes every page, and that is where the line goes; for the file in your version and theme, check in OpenCart's documentation. If you use a custom theme, edit that theme's copy, not the default.

Get your code

Your code is in your Allinaa cabinet: step 5 of the setup wizard, or the "Website installation" card on the Overview (sign up at bot.allinaa.com/start if you have no account yet). It looks like this, with your own bot id:

<script src="https://bot.allinaa.com/widget.js" data-bot-id="your-bot-id" defer></script>

Route 1: the footer template

  1. Open your theme's footer template in an editor.
  2. Paste the line just before the closing body tag and save.
  3. Clear the store's cache (and refresh modifications if your store uses them) so visitors get the new page.

Route 2: an extension

  1. Install an extension that adds custom scripts to every page; extensions are installed from a zip through the admin's extension installer.
  2. Paste the line into its footer setting, enable it and save.
  3. Clear the cache and open the store.

There is no Allinaa extension in the OpenCart marketplace today; any extension of that kind that prints the tag unchanged will do.

Updates and theme switches

An edited footer template is replaced when the theme is updated or switched; the line then has to be pasted again. An extension keeps its setting across theme changes. Put the install date in your notes so a vanished button after an update is easy to explain.

Check the installation

  1. Open the published site, not the editor, in a private browser window.
  2. Look for the chat button in a bottom corner, then open a second page.
  3. Ask something your approved knowledge covers.
  4. In your Allinaa cabinet click Check my site: it reads your homepage and up to two pages it links to and answers found, not found or unreachable.

For caching and the other usual causes, see the troubleshooting page. Order and shipping questions in chat are described on the order, shipping and returns page.
