Find out what your website visitors actually ask

Written by the Allinaa team · Updated

Every question typed into your chat is something a real visitor wanted to know and didn't find on your website. Read in bulk, those questions are cheap, unprompted customer research.

Conversations as customer research

Surveys ask what you think to ask. Chat questions show what visitors actually wonder about, in their own words, at the moment they are deciding. Some patterns you will only see this way:

  • a service you offer that nobody can find on the menu;
  • a word customers use that your site never uses;
  • the same worry before booking, such as parking, deposits or how long it takes;
  • demand for something you don't offer yet.

The monthly performance report

Standard and Premium include a monthly performance report, emailed to you and built only from recorded activity. Nothing in it is estimated. It contains:

  • the number of conversations in the period;
  • AI replies used, and the allowance on Standard;
  • inquiries submitted and follow-up requests;
  • a list of the questions the assistant couldn't answer, with the first 30 listed and a count of the rest;
  • the knowledge updates and response improvements made that month, with the time spent.

The report needs a paid service period, so it isn't part of the free trial. Website traffic isn't in it either. Use your analytics tool for traffic, and the report for what people asked.

Spotting questions your website doesn't answer

Sort the unanswered questions into three groups:

  1. Missing from the knowledge, but known to you. The fix is a knowledge update.
  2. Missing from your website as well. If visitors had to ask, the page is missing too. Add the fact to the page and to the knowledge.
  3. Out of scope. Job seekers, sales pitches, questions about other companies. Write one line telling the assistant how to respond, then move on.

Then look at your inquiry inbox export. Which services do people request most? What timing do they ask for? Which pages do requests come from? Every request records the page it was sent from.

Turning findings into page and FAQ updates

A 30-minute monthly routine is enough for most small businesses:

  1. Read the unanswered list and group similar questions.
  2. For each group, decide where the fix belongs: the knowledge, a website page, your FAQ or your price list.
  3. On Standard, send the knowledge changes to Allinaa's team. Up to 2 hours a month of updates and response improvements is included. Use the correction request for answers that were wrong.
  4. Update your website pages yourself or with your web developer.
  5. Next month, check whether that group of questions has gone from the list.

The method for writing the fixes is in Writing chatbot knowledge, and common answers are covered in FAQ answers. If many questions are about one campaign page, read Chatbot for landing pages.

Privacy when reviewing conversations

Chat questions are written by real people and sometimes include names, addresses or health details. Treat the report and the transcripts accordingly:

  • Limit who reads them to the people who act on them.
  • Don't paste customer wording into public pages, ads or social posts. Rewrite the point in your own words.
  • Remove names before sharing examples in team meetings.
  • Tell visitors in your privacy notice that chats are stored and reviewed to improve your service.

More on this in Chatbot privacy basics.

Illustrative findings

Illustrative findings for a fictional business, not real customer data.

Unanswered, 6 times: "do you work on weekends": the hours page lists weekdays only. The answer was "by appointment", but it wasn't written anywhere. Fix: one line on the page and in the knowledge.

Unanswered, 4 times: "do you take insurance": not offered. Fix: state it clearly so the assistant can say so.

Inbox export: Most requests for one service came from the blog post, not the service page. Fix: improve the service page and link it from the post.

How many unanswered questions does the report show?

Up to 30 are listed with their text, followed by a count of any others in the same period.

Does the report include website traffic?

No. It is built from chat activity only: conversations, AI replies used, inquiries, follow-ups, unanswered questions and the improvements made.

Yes. Each inquiry records the page it was sent from, with any query string removed.
